Read More This movie was very unusual and for that reason, enjoyable. Every male character was dysfunctional in one way or another and Mom was the glue that held them all together. When you looked at the chubby little girl with glasses dreaming of being a beauty queen, you knew it would be a far reach for her to win. But, that was her dream and the dysfunctional family all supported her dream. The ending was hysterical! This was a good change from our normal action and drama picks. The character development was strong and the story was great. i love th fact that they poke fun at the ridiculous world of child pageants. Read More I expected a lot from the movie, based on some of the rave reviews...it was okay. The story centers around a little 7? 8? year old girl with a burning desire to win L. M. Sunshine beauty contest. Well, her family is flooded with problems... the father losing his job, the suicidal homosexual uncle, the ragingly unhappy adolescent brother, caught up in their own problems and barely able to pull it together to take a road trip to California where she can compete. The laughs are in the dialogue, the ways these crazy characters react to each other and the string of bad luck that plagues them on the trip. Some very good one liners and situations. Sometimes a little hard to relate to and humor and situations a bit forced. The little girl is really the star in the end. Kept me entertained with a few memorable moments, but, warning, some of the humor may be offensive to conservative viewers. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

I can't for the life of me figure out how it won or was nominated for so many awards. It started out with great promise, but by the end is was nothing more than a 90 minute very special episode of Blossom: everybody learned a lesson. Worth watching, but tone down your expectations. This movie is stupid, rude, extremelly crude, full of sexual innuendos.The people who like this movie are either juvenile or not at all intellectual. Steve Carrell made a great comedy(40y.o.virgin) and after that it 1 bom after another, his career will be over if this is the trend. I want my 99 minutes back.
