It was set in Holland in 1944 and the plot was realistic. The movie was over two hours long and had English subtitles and the dialog was in German and Dutch. I think the language made me feel like I was in the Netherlands. There was some violence, some sex and very much betrayal. It was hard to decide who could be trusted throughout the movie. Read More Carice VanHouten gives an Oscar worthy performance in this World War II movie filmed in The Netherlands. It is a hard movie to watch--at least it was for me--because it's not "nameless" troops getting killed as much as persons with real character development. Throughout, Carice is the central character around which the plot revolves. My only reservation is that the movie might be a bit long. However, part of that might have to do with the viewer's intensity being held over a long period of time wherein characters one gets to know as human suffer torture and brutal death. It is one of the best movies of its type I've seen. It has a great plot, great twists and turns, great acting, and great direction. It will keep you interested for the whole 2 1/2 hours that it lasts. Just when you think it's over there is more to come. Once you start watching it you won't be able to turn it off. Read More The movie was excellent with a well-developed storyline, as well as character development. As one of the reviewer stated, the film showed a side least about deception on both sides of war against the Nazi. In addition, the story shedded light on the fact that resistance members were just as much villiansand that there were Germans who were not supportive of the all Nazi's action. Set in Holland during the final year of WW2, keeps you engrossed until nearly the end. Covers the life of a Jewish woman caught in the Nazi occupation. {SPOILERS} She goes from hiding in the countryside to joining the resistance. The film is credible until nearly the end. The insulin shot scene was not really believable. This is where the plot starts to fall apart. Nevertheless, the film was never boring is well worth viewing. Read More I have mixed emotions about this movie, I won't say it isn't worth watching but... be prepared for the following: Sub-Titles, they were very poor, they seemed to be worse than others I have watched. Hard following the movie while trying to read less than perfect writing. Nudity, nudity is needed to some extent, but this seems to go a bit too far I feel. A movie like this could have stood on its own without so much skin, but if you like it then you will like the movie. Plot, the plot was actually quite good, a step above the usual.
