There was a bit of comedy, which you would expect with Jackie Chan on the credits. The story and plot though was a bit simplistic. Overall it was midly entertaining. As for a martial arts flic, I would recommend seeing the following first:
36 chambers of shaolin (1978)
crouching tiger hidden dragon (2000)
Fist of Legend (1994)
seven samaurai (1954)
twilight samaurai (2002)
Once upon a time in china (1991)
Once upon a time in china 2 (1992)
Iron Monkey (1993)
storm riders (1998)
Kung Fu Hustle (2004)
Ninja Scroll(1986)
The deul(2000)
hidden blade (2004)
house of flying daggers (2004)
samaurai fiction (1999)
Enter the dragon (1973)
Zatoichi (1989)
Ran (1985) Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More In the genre of martial arts films, this one brings together family honor, intrigue and a bit of comedy. This is the story of a retired secret service officer whose wife has just died. He is left to keep the pieces of his family together as they are broken from her passing. To make matters worse, his two children refuse to believe the stories that he tells of his former life of espionage. How could this Chinese medicine doctor have done all of these things? But when he's kidnapped, his children realize the truth in his stories. Their prior martial arts training helps them to rescue their father from the clutches of evil and at the same time brings the family together again. Worth a watch, but not the best martial arts film out there. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Although described as a family film, the movie's target audience is probably the fourteen year old demographic. The acting, directing, editing and especially the fight choreography were very well done. If you liked "Silver Hawk" you might like this as they share the similar theme of fighting a Dr. Evil type of bad guy with martial arts. The story might have been better if Daniel Wu's and Michael Wong's characters were cast by more believable actors. The DTS 5.1 audio option made minor, but good use of surround sound. As for extras, on Disc 1, there are three trailers for the movie and trailers for three other movies. Although Disc 2 isn't worth adding to your queue due to a lot of redundant interviews, there's a "Behind the Scenes" featurette (45:00 min), a "Cast Interviews" featurette (56:25 min) with five of the actors, a "Making of" featurette (10:02 min), a "TV Spots" (08:43 min) and trailers for three other movies. Recommended. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More A modern kung fu story with humor. The actors/actresses (Gillian Chung, Stephen Fung, Anthony Wong) were forced to participate in choreographed fight sequences that required multiple combinations of moves. The fights are numerous and include an opening dream sequence (lasting 3 minutes), a 4-on-1 clash (lasting 5 minutes), a nighttime water park fight (lasting 5 minutes), and a final brawl (lasting 9 minutes). The action itself is more stylish (and less brutal) than the Hong Kong flicks of the 1980s, with characters relying more on technique and finesse. What results is a satisfying and entertaining popcorn movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Many of the fight scenes were entertaining, but some were a bit too graphic for younger viewers. I found it entertaining, but not something that I would let my kids watch (without fast forwarding). The trailers made it seem better than it turned out to be. Sort of odd in some places with parts they could have definitely done without. It was more like the movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be a serious movie because the violent parts were pretty yucky - or a funny movie with good martial arts action. Worth watching but definitely didn't meet expectations. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

After the opening fight scene I was hooked; I thought; "I'm going to like this movie". Unfortunately, the movie never rose to that level again. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I expected more from the talent involved with the project. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
