Read More I love indian themed movies ( Monsoon wedding, bride and prejudice, the guru, bend it like beckham), but this movie was terrrribble!!. The story was so unbelieveable and corny, and her talking to the Spices was unbearably cheezy and bad, as were Dillon's lines. My wife and I still make fun of the movie with " spice lines" Poor acting, bad lines, terrible plot and a true waste of time. I am not sure what movie people watched or what taste they have if they gave this anything but a poor rating. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The movie cover looked sumptuous so I was eager to see it. Unfortunately, it plays like a long music video with Rai spending most of the movie posing wistfully with mood music, while playing with her spices. There's not much of a plot here which is surprising since this is an adaptation from a popular book (haven't read it). I can't imagine the original book was this corny. It shoots for the magical realism of 'Chocolat' but only manage to feel like a made-for-cable movie. Lacks the magic and chemistry. Very disappointing. If you like the east-meets-west theme, try Mississipi Burning or East West or Monsoon Wedding. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Praying to spices is a little much for my imagination. I did think she is beautiful and he is very handsome. It was the content of the movie that turned me off. I think I expected more from an exclusive. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The concept of the movie was good, but the narration was corny. If this movie had been written better and a lead actor that looked and sounded more like a match for Rai then if would have found a much larger audience. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More Mistress of Spices is a charming, mystical, and light romantic comedy. I really enjoyed this movie and that's saying a lot from a woman who currently hates romantic comedies. The romance wasn't overly done or mushy. The lead actress is a true exotic beauty. The final scene would make a lovely piece of artwork. To sum up, this film is visually appealing also. Read More If not for a gorgeous-looking Rai and manly McDermott, we would have fallen asleep way before the end. First, you find those little conversations with spices really enchanting, but after 15 minutes of "oh, spices, speak to me!" and "why are you leaving me, spices?!!" it gets kind of cheesy and you start to wonder...I am sure that whoever wrote the lines got paid big money, but I am also not sure why. It would help if dialogs were a bit livelier and wittier, and a bit of sense of humor never hurt anybody. So this movie left me a bit puzzled.But...look at all the pretty colors!!! They saved the day!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
