The lead actress is absolutely gorgeous and delivered a quiet but powerful performance. The supporting cast was strong and I was very interested. My other half loves these kind of movies but, was left unsatisfied. My cynical friend and I who hate these kind of movies- very much enjoyed it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More This movie had a low budget almost daytime television soap opera quality to it. Aishwarya Rai is of course beautiful, but she seems to pose more than she acts, and even her luminous eyes can only hold your attention for so long. The chemistry between the lead characters was restrained, as you would expect it to be, given the cultural differences and the backstory, but you will find it annoying unless you like "Remains of the Day" type pacing, where what's left unsaid matters more than the few words that come out. This movie lies somewhere between a fantasy parable and a romance but it does neither very well. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Gurinder Chadah is *not* the director, her husband directs (I prefer her movies).
Santosh Shivan is the cinematographer, there's some good camera work, but there's only so much *he* can do.
The cast .. Aishwarya is gorgeous, but she seems too self conscious and never lets herself go. She's the eternal wooden doll.
The supporting cast is good but wasted on this movie.
The story sucks. Maybe the book is good, but the movie makes a hash of it. Couldn't sit through the whole movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More In a world full of violence and hate I was totally intrigued by this movie. Yes, the pace was slow, but just to remember how it used to be in my generation gave me some peace and thoughtful memories. For the most part, people actually cared about each other in this movie and being a lover of spices added interest.
Slow paced, thoughtful and refreshing!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

A masala of shallow characters and lack of plot may deter some, but you may find enjoyment as the magic of the spices takes hold of you. =) Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
