An intriguing blend of mystery, humor and suspense with many well-done cameos. Finely acted and highly entertaining.

If you have taken any sort of film class, or have watched any of AFI's Top 100 Films of All Time, then you will "get" this movie. Every scene, practically every shot is an homage or tongue-in-cheek stab at all the most famous movies and most popular genres. And of course, it's generous in it's entirely too close to home satire of the workings of the film industry. Think they're exaggerating how the movie industry works? Want to bet on it? Coming from one who actually works in the industry, you shouldn't take that bet...

Funny, my copy also stuck a bit at the 1 hour 15 minute point, must be a bad pressing... Anyway, I really didn't know what to expect from this Robert Altman movie and was surprised when it went from a movie-biz satire to a murder mystery while adding a slightly surrealistic love story. Safe to say you haven't seen many movies like this one. Recommended!

If you are interested in movies as art or as social commentary or pure entertainment, this movie meets all three goals. Robert Altman's satire of the movie industry is excellent. Love this movie!

This was good but not great. It had it's brilliant moments and the next scene would be a dud. That was the problem for me - no consistency from scene to scene and it felt like Altman was never quite sure where he wanted to go with this. Overall though this was fun - you can play 'how many cameo rolls can Robert Altman stuff into one film? Granted this was a movie about Hollywood - but got to be a little silly..still fun as this movie is over 15 yrs old now and many that appeared in it (however briefly) are now gone. The ending is predictable, it was a little too long, but some of the scenes were just so much fun they made it worth the watch.

At first, we thought it was going to be awful, but watching the opening credits, saw tons of names of good actors, and thought it must be a well made flick. Slow at first, built enough for us to think--wow, this is a good one. It ended up leaving a LOT to be desired. The many MANY well-known actors must have had this production written into the small print of their contracts. Not worth seeing. Maybe it's a spoof on Hollywood? We didn't get it. Must have been made for those only IN the industry.

Don't waste your time. Very clumsy and predictable satire. Nothing much to recommend it.
