The best that I can do is hope you see this review and save yourself the pain of watching a truely horrible martial arts movie. If you make it past the first 10 minutes you are only tortured with more of the same. The camera angles and editing looked like they were taken and cut from an ADD sufferer who just can't seem to figure out what direction they are going. The flashbacks make no sense and come out of no where. The fight scenes are slow with very little more than green belt ability. This "movie" is a waste of your time.

The script effectively spreads an interesting storyline across almost a dozen characters. The acting, directing, cinematography, set and costume design, special effects and sound were very well done. As this is a Tsui Hark film, there are a number of cool elements including out of this world weapons and a group of bounty hunters (ala The Four Horsemen) led by a female that would make Marilyn Manson raise an eyebrow. Since the movie was shot entirely on location, you'll see many beautiful wide shots of China. The 5.1 DTS audio option made good use of surround sound. As for extras, on Disc 1, there's a "Feature Commentary". On Disc 2, there's a "Deleted & Extended Scenes" feature (23:27 min), a "Behind the Scenes" feature (20:57 min), an "Interview Gallery" feature (1:54:43 hours), a "The Making of Seven Swords" feature (18:18 min), a "Storyboard Gallery" and a "Promotion Gallery" containing seven trailers for the movie. If you weren't impressed with the movie, skip Disc 2. Recommended.

With a poor story line, and ever worse editing in the fight sequences, this was a film that could but didn't. With the cinematography and costume design, this had the makings of an epic, but to no avail. I wouldn't recommend this film unless there is an actor in particular that you just NEED to see.
