Read More I know Charlie Wilson personally, and Tom Hanks did a wonderful job. This is a beautiful movie, i had ambled into the theater hoping to sleep my way through. However, it was breathtaking, and wonderful. Maybe Julia Roberts was a bit disappointing, but the CIA officer was wonderful.

Read More Aaron Sorkin's brilliant writing makes me willing to look past the oversimplification of the black appropriations process. Sorkin would have us belive that Charlie Wilson alone orchestrated the drastic increase in funding for covert operations in Afghanistan during the 1980's. It's a convincing story if we forget about Ronald Reagan and the United States Senate who also must have signed off on these substantial expenditures. Nevertheless, go see this movie. What could be more exciting than watching a playboy congressman get drunk on booze and high on blow while sleeping with beatiful women half his age and recklessly endangering the balance of powers and the public interest. It was a very interesting story with great acting as always from Hoffman and Hanks. I would recommend this movie to all adults, but mostly to anyone who lived during the ending of the cold war years. This is a true story in the eyes of three people who had a part in this war, at least as they see it, or want us to believe. I can only assume that if this story were truthfully told by people higher up in the government, they would not see these three individuals as playing that major of a role in the ending the cold war. Tom Hanks is ALWAYS worth watching!!!! 'Makes' any movie that he is in. The movie reminded me of 'how interesting / times" were at that time in Washington - probably still are! Like maybe saying that cause we couldn't be bothered to put the penny's into afgan infrastructure groups like the tabliban were able to come to power. Or maybe because the rest of the world understands that we fund terrorist in the middle east they visit terror upon us. besides doing nothing with the ending the movie was great a political junkies wet dream.
