I'm a Texan who is well acquainted with the "Character flaws" Charley Wilson was reputed to have. Upon viewing the movie, one has to wonder if that was a very artful facade. Yes, his office was staffed with beautiful women. They were, however very competent. They were far from the bimbos they were reputed to be. While outrageously funny, this film is deadly serious. Read More FANtastic performances by Hanks, Roberts and Seymour Hoffman as well as supporting role by Amy Adams & Ned Beatty. True story of Texas Congressman "Good Time Charlie" Wilson who clandestently assisted the Mujahideen (Afghan freedom fighters) in the 1980s who were being invaded by the Russian Army. I learned a lot more than some recent history here from this movie. Puts a whole new perspective on what good morals and values REALLY are. Totally enjoyed this film on every level - grandly directed by Mike Nichols. The DVD offers interviews & footage of the real Charlie Wilson and the other key characters in this movie. If they were ever involved in politics then they would also enjoy and appreciate this movie. Read More This is such a fantastic story and to think it's based on a true story makes it even more fabulous. I actually wish there were more Congresspeople like Charlie Wilson. He might have been crass and uncouth, but he had b@lls of steel and got things done!
Tom Hanks & Julia Roberts are very good in this film, but I thought Philip Seymour Hoffman was brilliant!
