With its incoherent plot, jaw-droppingly odd dialogue, inept acting, threadbare production design, and special effects so shoddy that they border on the surreal, Plan 9 From Outer Space has often been called the worst movie ever made. But it's an oddly endearing disaster; boasting genuine enthusiasm and undeniable charm, it is the work of people who loved movies and loved making them, even if they displayed little visible talent. In Plan 9, alien invaders attempt to conquer the world by raising the dead, starting with an old man dressed in a Dracula costume (Bela Lugosi, in a few minutes of left-over footage grafted into this film), his much-younger and well-proportioned wife (Maila "Vampira" Nurmi), and a remarkably overweight police officer (Tor Johnson). Often funny and consistently entertaining (if almost always for the wrong reasons), Plan 9 From Outer Space is an anti-masterpiece if there ever was one, and as Criswell so brilliantly puts it, "Can you PROVE it didn't happen?!?" Its legendary director Edward D. Wood Jr. was played by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's 1994 biopic, Ed Wood. One of the DVD releases of Plan 9 From Outer Space includes the documentary Flying Saucers Over Hollywood: The Plan 9 Companion, an exhaustive and entertaining look at the making of the film that runs a half-hour longer than the feature to which it pays tribute! ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

"Plan 9 From Outer Space" falls into the "so bad it's actually good" category. While not polished or refined in any way it has an innocent charm that lacks even in today's big budget , hi-tech world of moviemaking. You'll find yourself laughing at the ineptness of the film and each time you watch, you'll see something new. It's a stinker all right, but a lovable stinker. Watch it once and I'll bet it will find a home in your collection. While you're at it, check out Ed Wood's "Bride of the Monster". Cheers, Edward D. Wood Jr.!

I was led to belive that this movie was the worst movie ever written, produced and directed out there....next to Attack of the Killer Tomateos of course, it wasn't. Sure the sets were cheesy, the acting was horrible, grade D special effects, and 1 shot wrap ups with tons of flaws, but I've seen worse.

If you enjoy bad movies this one will have you in stitches! This film tries so hard to make a serious statement about the fate of mankind that you have to appreciate it for the bomb that it is. The dialogue alone is so ridiculous that it has to be heard to be believed. Expect the absolute worst when you view Plan 9 and your expectations will be far exceeded. Prepare to be stunned by this horribly great horror classic!

This is one of the most unintentionally hilarious films I have ever seen. The acting, dialogue, special effects, and plotlines all are truly awful! This film would be a 5 star comedy, but it was supposed to be suspenseful so it deserves 0 stars. Worth seeing for a good laugh!

If you are a fan of truly bad movies, this is a real treat. Golden Turkey Award Winner (Worst Director) Edward D. Wood is at his absolute worst with this "Terrifying true tale-of GRAVE ROBBERS FROM OUTER SPACE." The laughably crude "Special Effects" were so bad that my 10 year old son spotted the string used on the Flying Saucers. You'll also see things like characters who walk out of a graveyard at night-and into a mid-day sun! This is also the great BELA LUGOSI'S last movie. They had just started filming some scenes with Lugosi walking around his house, etc when the great star died. This would have been a problem for less creative directors-but not for Mr. Wood. He simply hired another actor-supposedly his wifes' chiropractor-to play the part in the remaining scenes with a cape over his face. I also HEARTILY recommend "Ed Wood" which stars Johhny Depp as The Great Director. Rent'em both as a double feature.

Check out Bela in this movie... most of the scenes featuring him is a much younger guy. When his face is hidden by his "Dracula" cape, it's the other guy. For the story of this movie being made, check out "Ed Wood" starring Johnny Depp. Plan 9 is a very bad movie, but that's what Ed Wood was all about...

From the moment Bella Lugosi died in the second scene by walking off screen and freeze-framing as a car accident track played, I knew this film would be epic. Fans of the absolutely awful, this is your holy grail.

Watch Burton's "Ed Wood" then watch this; it's absolutely hilarious when you know what is going on behind the scenes. Yes, it's a terrible movie, but we loved it.

I honestly don't see how this could be rated the 3rd Worst Movie of All Time (behind "Troll 2" and "Manos: The Hands of Fate," the Worst Film in History). Besides the unnecessary zombie plot and the "cheap for it's time" special effects, I don't think this movie is quite bad, at all. In fact, I rather liked it. Although I *do* think that part of the reason it's rated so badly is because this movie was actually intended to be serious, although it seems completely, 100% legitimately like satire or comedy. I'm willing to guess that's probably why it's called such a "bad" movie.

Plan 9 is often referred to as the worst firm ever made. Unfortunately it has its moments. You might say it was so bad that it was funny. Something I cannot say of every film I've seen. Worth a look only if you are curious about how bad it really is.
