Aside from that, the storyline was clever. The subject matter may not be for everybody though. The film focused on the sexual orientation of most of the characters. I enjoyed it, I'm not so sure this is a film for everybody though. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It was originally written for the theater, so the delivery of certain lines/scenes have that feel to them. (As an aside, when brought to Broadway, this play won TONYs!! The actors are the same as in the Broadway production). It also explains why this movie is 90% about dialogue, not action. The humor is British and the lines are quick. I'm also a female who is not homophobic, but I certainly don't go searching for films with gay themes. That being said, I had no issue with the gay themes in this movie. The students are all supposed to be 18 or so (based on what I know of the educational system over there), making the "teacher foldling" issue yes, distasteful, but not pedophilic. There are themes of seduction that have to do more with power than gender and sexual orientation. And only three chatacters end up really being gay out of the cast. The acting itself is SUPERB. Read More This film purports to follow the final year of a group of impossibly precocious high schoolers in Britain, and several of their equally unlikely profs. While I might grant you that English upper school students may well be somewhat more mature than their American counterparts, the level of esoteric intellectual banter, unembarrassed sexual sophistication and cultural profundity that these boys are presented as possessing is absolutely ludicrous, and so preposterous as not to be in the least entertaining. Particularly repulsive is the scenario near the end of the film where the good looking, very straight, student lothario Daikin offers to allow his timid and closeted gay teacher to perform oral sex upon him by way of a "thank you" for his help in prepping him to pass his university entrance exams. And the teacher is presented as being thrilled by this astoundingly humiliating proposal! Is this the British idea of liberal sexuality in the modern day? No thank you very much. Read More This movie was hard to sit through, and actually I fast forwarded through most of it. The boys are hardly depicted as "unruly" and the story never picks up pace. The fact that teacher Hector "coddles" the boys is, in my view, irresponsibly made light of. The movie ends with more suggestive sexual behavior between a student and a teacher. I don't know why this was put into the film or why such criminal sexual behavior did not end in any consequences for the perpetrator. Irresponsible film making. Read More Other reviewers comment that if you are not an open-minded "intellectual" you just won't understand it. . . .pure crap. What this movie DOES do is paint gay pedophilia in a positive light. There was a history professor at my high school that everybody loved and admired until they found out he had molested at least 5 teen boys throughout the years. TODAY HE IS ROTTING IN PRISON, AND RIGHTLY SO! But in THIS movie, the old teacher Hector fondles his teen students and they all just shrug it off, "Oh well, that's just the way he is." The school headmaster that finally fires him is painted as a villain and stupid. To make it worse, the new teacher is also gay and has a crush on one of the boys. When the boy finally passes his exams and is no longer considered a student (which I guess by the filmmaker's standards makes it acceptable) the boy returns and ASKS HIS TEACHER TO SUCK HIM OFF! AND THE TEACHER AGREES! Total rubbish. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
