Read More This was a good movie, it by all means deserves five starts, yet there's something about it that's stopping me. The acting, on the part of the whole cast, was superb. I especially liked Stephen Campell Moore, he really nails the role as a Oxford style teacher. The story was good and inspiring, it made me want actually pick up a book and start quoting poetry. It's different in that; instead of having your usual bunch of "ghetto children" who are shown the light by their teacher, these kids actually come to class wanting to learn. However, it's not the perfect movie. While there was a prevalent homosexual theme (which means if you really despise homosexuality you won't like this movie at all), that's not what bothered me. It seemed to me that the movie tries to justify child molestation and say "Hey it's okay to step all over a person's rights as long as your a smart man who everyone loves". All in all I would recomend this movie to anyone, with the exception of radical conservatives. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I kept waiting for something, anything to happen. I probably should have done more research before I rented the films. The trials and efforts to get into Oxford storyline (which I thought the movie was about) played second fiddle to homosexual and pedophilic themes. If I wanted to watch a movie about underage British boys and their gay teachers, I'd watch -- well, probably nothing, since that's not a topic I've any interest in. Richard griffiths is superb and scary, francis de la tour is excellent as the reformed feminist, the boys are true if alittle "old' to be 18.
All in all I thought this as good as the stage play and is justifiably successful in its objective. My opinion best brit movie of the past 5 years

Read More This movie has a great ensemble cast and you can really feel as if the actors are the students who banter about poetry and movie lines as if it were their everyday language. Of course, the subplot about the possible homosexual leanings of one professor may turn some viewers off. The story does feel a bit forced to come up with some kind of tension and the sexual tensions that abound are put there for that purpose. Watching the behind-the-scenes featurette was quite good and gives you an insight as to why the film cast seemed to gel so well together. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More All the right components come together to make a movie that doesn't quite work. It's worth seeing, but you can strongly sense that this film was taken from a stage play, with the same actors in the same roles. The director is obviously more savvy in stage production than film, as the direction here is often distracting. (Odd camera tricks for no particular reason, anyone?) And, sadly, this is a story that could never be. The boys are far too aware and mature for their age, so it just doesn't stack up. It was nice world to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
