One living anywhere else realizes how good they have it. You begin to see how an individual like Tsotsi could be as cold and inhuman as he is in the beginning of the movie. Well written, acted, directed and beautifully shot. Best of all, no Hollywood cliches! Of course, the source material is from Athol Fugard and you don't get better than that. I rarely buy a movie, but this one has to be on my shelf. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

reasons why we owe any child that we choose to bring in the world the best even if we are not here to provide it. Provisions must be made for your children when you are not there to raise them. This adult/child 's portrayal
of life was just spell-binding in his grasp for love and huminity. Excellent movie!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The acting is great, the directing tight, the camera work amazingly interesting.. It is a shame that US films are getting lamer as time goes on, while India, Africa, and other countries abroad produce better flicks by the year. I highly recommend this movie. If you are an intelligent, sensitive, thinking individual who enjoys seeing artists at work, this one's for you. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I never know what to make of a movie when the critics proclaim it the years best or it wins an Academy award. However, this movie is in my opinion, deserving of all the hoopla. It really is a very good movie, so much so that I did not even notice the subtitles after a while, the movie being so engrossing. Interestingly enough, the spoken language/dialect (Tsotsitaal) in the movie contains seemingly a plethora of slang English words. I highly recommend this movie. I did not find it maniuplating as another critic here wrote. After all, movies are made to entertain/evoke emotions. IF you want manipulation I recommend Crash. Read More TSOTSI's biggest problem--the movie's and the title character's--is a baby. This tiny (from the looks of him) month-or-two-old infant must serve as the film's raison d'etre, its heavy-duty symbol, the cause of our hero's redemption and a whole bunch more. This is quite a load for any month-old to undertake, particularly when it appears that no one connected with the writing or direction of last year's Best Foreign Film winner has a nodding acquaintance with what nearly-newborns might be like. They need constant attention and cry a lot. This one cries a little, and that's pretty much it--even after being left alone for hours, during which he is covered by some very large ants. Do you feel manipulated yet? If you steel yourself & take the ride, you will encounter some fine performances, especially from the lead actor, Presley Chweneyagae. I must admit to being very moved by his ultimate action, but the film itself is not as good as it ought to be, given its heavy-duty theme & content. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
