Read More I put this in the same place as "Hotel Rwanda"... outstanding movie, outstanding acting, glad I saw it, but not in a hurry to see it again anytime soon because the material is hard to watch. The fact it is based on a real person and real events makes it particularly important to see... these things happen and it is useful to not ignore these realities... "those who don't learn from the past..." sort of thing. But it is kind of like going to therapy... its hard to tell someone it was "good" when you dealt with something that was really painful, but, at the same time, it WAS good, because now you're in a better place than you were... but it wasn't any fun.
It IS a "good" movie, but not because it was any fun to watch. :-) Still, there are useful things to be aware of and learn about, and the acting is awesome. Forest Whitaker deserved TWO oscars for this performance! One just doesn't seem to do it justice! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More I cannot fully enjoy a movie that has some ironic inconsistencies in it, but made every attempt to do so. The acting of Forest Whitaker in his portrayal was quite good, and I can see why the awards were forthcoming. Some of the other characters were underdeveloped and weak, and were lost entirely once they were introduced. I have seen better, but enjoyed this one for a bit. The movie was gripping, rich with texture and undercurrents. Has many valuable and timely lessons to impart, and although it is only fiction based on real events, does a good job educating and opening our eyes too. This movie should have been Best Picture in my ... Read More James McCovey and Forrest Whittaker are brilliant in this superb movie. I was expecting a one man show Oscar vehicle. But instead I got a great movie. This movie should have been Best Picture in my opinion. Seeing Amin through McCovey's eyes was an apt approach to telling the story.
