Read MoreDjimon Hounsou stole the show! He was absolutely amazing and totally believable in this movie. I have enjoyed watching him in the past and his performance in Blood Diamond did not disappoint. The young man who played his son was also excellent. Although the roll of the son was a smaller one, it was very intense, and done so well. Leonardo Dicaprio was also great. I had seen Leonardo in a couple of movies in the past that were not well done enough to elicit the performance that we all know that he is capable of... Here, the performance comes out... and how great it is! The movie itself is well written... thought provoking... wondrous... and.... the horrific scenes are realistically done.. and done in such a way that it draws one into the story while allowing the time for enough character development (which has been lacking in movies lately) for the viewer to grow attached to both the situation and the individuals portrayed. I agreed with a number of other reviewers here that the film ran a bit too long, but it was definitely worth the time. Both DiCaprio & Hounsou performed spectacularly and, in my opinion, both deserved the Academy Award. I'm very glad I rented this movie and highly recommend it.
