We loved the music and plan to buy the soundtrack, too. It was also funny and did a great job of handling and prejudice. My only negative is John Travolta. This movie is wonderful.The music and dancing is delightful. John Travolta is a true pleasure and simply amazing as the mother. Queen Latifa added great spice to the role of the black host. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

At times, I felt like Nikki Blonsky was trying too hard, but it was a great debut for her. John Travolta sounded a bit too much like Dr. Evil from Austin Powers for my taste, but I found myself singing along with this movie. I'd recommend this film. We rented Hairspray. He put the movie on (with the biggest frown you've ever seen) - and he absolutely LOVED it!! I even caught him humming one of the songs the following day!!
