i have never liked peter falk...columbo! but i think he did a good job in this movie. i have terminal renal cell cancer and often think of suicide...it was quite interesting what the family was put through with his desire to check out. frankly, in the end, i'm glad he lived!

I felt the cast over-acted a bit, and the dialogue was a bit contrived at times, but the overall movie was actually very funny and heartwarming - not bad at all!

Checking Out was based on a stage play and it has the look and feel of one. There are a few outdoor scenes added to pad the runtime but really do nothing for the plot. There are very few comedic lines in this movie. I really believe Peter Falk is miscast. His gravely voice was great for Columbo but it sounds flat and monotonous in this picture. I did not like the subject and I did not like any of the characters. Suicide is not funny. To be in perfect health but plan to terminate yourselve because you know you will get ill someday is ludicrous. The little twist at the end did not save this film or give me any warm and fuzzy feelings. This is a poor movie.
