Some movies should have warnings to be prepared. When you go to a movie like this and expect plot development and personal conflicts and everything the Academy looks for to be nominated by Oscar time, you have just stepped into that movie with the wrong mindset. I loved this movie. Every time I calmed down, Clive would do something else impossible. Clive was a great hero, and Paul was a truly creepy bad guy. This is one of the great benefits of renting a DVD and they should be watched if you really want a better understanding and appreciation about what went into the making of this film. Sorry all you cool Holier than thouh British people, that's the whole point of this movie. Classic great acting by Paul Giamatti too, the one liners, the action and the unbelieveable action sequences were fantastic and a pleasure to watch. If you are expecting James Bond then stay away, if u want a fun romp through action city then this is for you, all you pretend movie snobs who think you know what u are talking about can go rent Brokeback Mountain or something equally "up your alley". Lets say it is like "Desperado! When you have like 20 guys shooting at Antonio B. with uzzis and there are over 100+ bullets being fired right at him, yet he just stands there, reloading his weapon, and never gets hit! Which is a shame cause I enjoyed director Michael Davis Monster man alot.
All I can say is I wasnt impressed and I wasnt disappointed.
As it is Shoot em Up felt like someone aping Robert Rodriguez with only the most basic understanding of what makes one of his movies so fun to watch.
The best example would have to be Kung Fu Hustle.
