It's all there, in 50-year-old form. "Peyton Place" is definitely dated, but as a film from the Hayes Code era, this is about as far out there as you could go. It's a great companion piece to the usual Leave It to Beaver/Ozzie and Harriet perspective of the 1950's --- especially since David Nelson has a supporting role in it. (West Side Story fans will see Russ Tamblyn in a very different role.) The film needs its 2.5 hours to follow all of its various adult and teenaged characters.
