The reason why this movie is so difficult for people to like is that we're so used to films with scripts that have mile-a-minute events and emotions that tug us up and down for two hours through some epic plot. I loved this movie because it is most likely the most real movie I have ever seen in my life. There are parts of the movie that are hilarious and parts that make you break down crying, but only as many as you'd find in real life. A lot of people will find this boring, but Anthony Minghella directed these actors in their most realistic performances of all time. You feel like you're watching real people deal with intense problems, but not in a there's-a-bomb-going-off-and-my-wife-left-me-for-my-enemy way... they grapple with their mistakes and their feelings in the subdued, drawn out way that it occurs in life. That's what made this movie so beautiful to me. It's real.

If you are desperate, you may want to watch this. The acting is so-so- the story is horrible. Jude Law walks through the part, Liv his wife played by Robin Wright Penn is a snoozer. Jude is a womanizer- I don't believe his liasons are accidental. Juliette Binoche plays the petty thiefs mother- they are from Sarajevo and Bosnia. She does a very good job given the lackluste performance of Jude Law and most of the cast. Maybe, I am missing something because I don't know enough about the London neighborhood context, but this movie did not move me or clisk as a geniune story. Of course, Vera Farmiga- who was in The Departed is great and it always great to see the "working girl" get away with a car as a present. Some mild laughs- but otherwise this movie tried to hard and if you ask- I wish I had taken a pass on seeing this one. It inspired me to see Down to the Bone- so maybe I'll review that one soon.

My husband and I rented this movie and wished we hadn't. What we hoped would be a decent film with some suspense and drama and possible a bit of action, was not. It lacked suspense, drama, intrigue, and basically any of the things that go into making a good movie that draws you in and holds you suspended until the end. Would not recommend.

I really wanted to see this movie because of the cast. I was very disappointed. It could not hold my interest by the middle of the movie.

Previews looked good, however, I felt the movie moved very slow. No great twists or plots or surprises. I wouldn't recommend it.
