In French with subtitles. I enjoyed it a lot. The first half is funny and clever with several good-natured jokes about being brought up Catholic. It's also fun as the characters come of age during the 1970s: long hair, psychedic music, drugs. It's about Zachary, who struggles against his homosexual tendencies for fear of ridicule, etc. In the second half of the movie (which is not funny) Zach is proven right as his father declares that he'll never accept a gay son. Zach gets a steady girl and fully intends to live out his life as an accepted hetero. His inner drama unfolds as he continues to work at rejecting his same-sex attractions. It's a touching and believable depiction of how he has to come into himself before he can come out to anyone else. One of the most authentic depictions I've seen of that part of the coming out struggle.

Excellent performances though the film could've done with some editing as it felt a bit repetitive for 127 minutes. And it was fun to relive my teen 70s through this film!

Grew up in Montreal -this film gets the 70's and Quebecois family culture and is a seriously good view of growing up sexually confused. Seen ' Milk ' ? - check this out !

This is an excellent coming of age film, told in a brilliant and intelligent way. The performances are first rate! Marc-Andre Grondin's portrayal is heart warming and moving.

WOW! What a totally unexpected and great surprise! I don't know how I managed to miss this one and not hear anything about it but I did. I was expecting another half lame, low budget attempt at a gay movie. It was absolutely the opposite - perfect (ok, maybe some frontal nudity would have made it my all time favorite)! I laughed my head off and cried my eyes out. It didn't even have the formulaic, tragic ending. In all seriousness, this film should have won an Oscar (and I am a pretty harsh critic).

A boundlessly energetic coming-of-age story. Thoroughly entertaining and visually arresting it delves beneath all the complex layers that unite and divide a family. Definatly worth your time.

Don't let the sexually-confused homosexual overtones of the plot summary scare you away, because this is actually a very well written film with superb acting and a story that doesn't glorify homosexuality. In fact, much of the story involves Zach trying to balance societal expectations that his interest in doll carriages and David Bowie means that he must be gay, and his personal ongoing battle to defy these expectations and prove them wrong. The humor is wonderful throughout, and all of the characters are well defined. There's even a clever twist on the father's obession over his favorite import of Patsy Cline's "Crazy" that gets revealed in the very last frames of the film. A Canadian film with subtitles that's well worth seeing, especially if you love foreign films. (And again, don't panic when you see the other films previewed! This isn't a homosexual agenda film.)
