I'm glad that this movie is getting an American release. I think this movie was even a bit better than Ong Bak which was excelent. I saw this several months ago from a Thai DVD distributed here in The States under it's original name, Tom Yum Goong. I guess that dosen't really flow as well as The Protector, I hope that's all that Tarantino changed. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More this guy can seriously, jump, twist, kick a basketball hoop, twist and land back on his feet, i swear. he does the choreography and is like jet li without the cgi (computer-generated imagery) meaning he really does the stuff. theres a great scene in this movie that is all one cut: he walks up this huge stair case just whoopin everybody that comes at him. theres also a scene where he breaks 100 dudes' limbs, its redic. he's the man.

Now for the review. The story was maybe a little strange if you aren't familiar with Thai culture. According to what Jaa said in one of the interviews, the elephant is one of the most important figures to Thai people. Therefore when his elephants got stolen from him it hit a pretty sensitive nerve in Jaa's character sending him on a dangerous chase to get them back.
The fight scenes are obviously what make this movie worth watching. If you have never seen Muay Thai fighting, definitely watch Jaa's movies. I'll be sure to keep track of Tony Jaa if only to see the amazing fighting. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

My girlfriend commented that the plot was nothing but fighting by some guy trying to save his elephant. My son replied "We could have done without the elephant." Purely martial arts, as good as it gets. Best from Tony Jaa. Phenomenal entertainment. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie was a disappointment on many levels. The fight scenes and cinematography didn't measure up that that of "Ong-Bak" and the storyline was poorly conceived. Furthermore, I can't recommend this film to animal-lovers as it contains so many disturbing images of animal abuse. If you're thinking about seeing "The Protector" I would encourage you to rent "Ong-Bak" instead. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
