Melquiades (Julio Cedillo) an illegal immigrant who works as cowboy in a ranch in Cibolo County Texas, makes his friend Pete Perkins (Tommy Lee Jones) to promises him that in the event of his dead, he will return his dead body to his birth place, an unknown little town back in Mexico.
After Melquiades is murdered by a border patrol agent (Barry Pepper), Pete enrages and kidnaps the agent, makes him to exhume the body of his friend and start the pilgrim to that unknown place.
This film is one of those non-lineal movies (its constantly jump from the present to the past in order to explain some events) so if you do not sympathize with that
do you a favor and dont rent it.
And for those xenophobics who hate this film only because the bad guy is a Migra agent and the good one is a Mexican... Well you might look at the bright side... You will have something new to talk about, in your next KKK meeting!!

Read More I rented this based on a recomendation from a friend who enjoys westerns, I thanked him the day after I saw the film. The film was not hard at all for me to follow, my 17 year old son watched it with me and he understood it just fine. Tommy Lee Jones did a great job with creating an atmosphere of realistic characters, both through direction and the casting of actors. Dwight Yoakam is perfect for the role he plays and so is Barry Pepper. It's a different movie I'll hand you that, some dark comedic moments thrown in, but very entertaining. Good storyline of friendship and dedication. As for as the sex and violence, I really didn't see an unusual amount, I mean it is an R rated movie! We had to finish watching to see what would happen. I would have liked a little more at the end... but probably this was the best way to end this style of movie. Still really like Tommy Lee Jones. Also.... I really do not think it is appropriate for people writing these reviews to write ugly remarks about other reviewers....wish someone would put a stop to that sort of contamination. Let's all be kind to one of the reasons that the American labor market is going to hell and lets praise those who take the law into their own hands.
