Read More This movie, although had good acting, was horrible, slow and definitely not a film I could or ever would recommend to anyone! By time you reach the end, your thinking, I waited for this.. Why? The graphic nudity was absolutely unnecessary, it just goes on throughout the entire film! Why put a boy that's turned on by his older sister stripping for him, and SHOW him masturbating for the audience to see? Could have done without that! Then the HAIRY MONSTER! Nasty! The director could have made suggestions from the actors faces and side angle shots and left it at that. The nudity shot from the glass was one thing, but I mean, they could have let that stop there! I really couldn't even see the significant purpose of needing the Japanese deaf-mute girl to effect the flow of the film anyway. I couldn't stand this film in more ways than one! I had high hopes for Babel, but it's such a stinker. Most of the actors give good performances, and that's about the only good thing about the movie. The directing is just terrible. The movie is needlessly presented in a non-linear fashion shifting between the stories once the current story gets boring. The links between the stories are very weak; in particular the Japanese deaf-mute arc is pretty much useless as far as the overall story goes -- mind as well be its own bad movie. Actually, each of the separate stories on their own are pretty dull and meaningless. All this movie does is toss them in a blender and mix them up. A little focus from the director may have made this a much better movie, but alas it is what it is. If you're checking out 2006 Oscar-nom'd flicks, pass over this one and watch The Departed.
