Ugg what a boring movie. I only kept at it so I could see the connection was between the 3 different stories. I thought both cate blanchett and brad pitt did great jobs in their roles. It made you think of what you would do in a situation like that. I did not appreciate the story of chieko, because i felt they strayed away from the plot , wasted time and just put this girl in weird sexual situations that made me uncomfortable and made me lose interest in the film anytime she came up in a scene. There is not a sympathetic character in this film. You end up watching a bunch of broken people who happen to intersect. As a result, i was expecting a much better script and acting. The plot was very slow and disjointed, switching back and forth between three different stories without rhyme or reason. Although, the people in the three stories were tangentially connected, there was no common theme, or idea that carried the film. The acting was okay, but there were far too many long silences, and close-ups of angst-ridden characters. The ending was very unsatisfying in that you did not come away with a clear idea of how most of the charaters fared. I have no idea why this movie received so many awards.
