Read More Mirren's performance was outstanding in this historical piece. I was always curious as to what the reactions really were within the royal walls after Diana's death. The feelings of the queen's consort Prince Phillip were especially enlightening to me, and portrayed so well by the actor Cromwell. Diana was truly the People's Princess, and the feelings of jealousy and spite within the palace, tempered by the need for the Queen to reach out to her people, was depicted so well in this movie. Highly recommended. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More An excellent portrail of the Queen and Helen Mirren does an outstanding job. I was living in the UK when Di died and heard all the talk about the Queen not responding to the public with grief or even sympathy. It is fascinating to see it from her side and what is dictated to her by royal protocol. If you are interested in the Royal family in any way, this is a great movie to watch. Uninteresting. A Dull hammer against the senses, boring, not worth watching two hours of deadpan character impersonation with the greatest plot point being will she get in the car!?! Superficial. Insensitive. Try instead Windsor Castle: A Royal Year, a pbs series. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More A deadly public thirst brought on Diana's fatal car crash in Paris, and has not diminished. Wisely refusing to satisfy selfish demands, the film's impact lies both in what we are shown, and what we are not. Almost all 'Diana' footage is archival, and we are spared any grisly scenes. Prince Charles' missing siblings would have diminished the focus on emerging relationships between HM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Prince Charles, and Labour Party PM Tony Blair. Helen Mirren's Academy-Award-winning performance embodies the Queen's need for self-discipline, and a public that demanded she let down her guard for a time. She reflects that to be humbled is to be humiliated, and the film maintains her dignity. Her own father's death was not honored with the flag at half-mast over Buckingham Palace, yet the public demanded it for Diana. Despite the betrayals between the "people's princess" and the Royal Family, the sudden death of a young and beautiful, once-would-be Queen required pageantry.
