Read More I'd say this movie was very informative on the Royal Family and how it exists in the modern world. I especially enjoyed Helen Mirren and thought she deserved the academy award for her performance. She gave the character nuance and many demensions. I also didn't realize how profound Diana's death was to the British people. All in all a good movie!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This movie was more about the Queen's fictional reaction to Diana's death in contrast to the reaction of everyone else. It would be nice to have a little more background on the Queen. Maybe I should have read about the flick first. Nice acting, but the plot was a bit on the boring side -- not much tension...just quiet and subtle. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More Helen Mirren in her Oscar winning performance of Queen Elizabeth. Covers the period of time right after Tony Blair was elected Prime Minister and during the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana. The historical facts are there - peppered with much assumption & sheer guess-work on the writers part as to what MAY have been said behind closed doors between the royal family members at the time, but never the less an interesting story & note-worthy performance by Mirren. I DO think the writers tried to depict the Queen as she really is, and not villianize her nor look at her through rose colored glasses; and I do believe they were successful in doing so. Read More How authentic is this supposed peek into the private lives of that most watched/dissected/examined of families? Ironically, only the object of our perennial curiosity, the royals themselves, can answer that question; and I seriously doubt that any of them would care to watch a movie about themselves. This movie needs no explanation and hardly any review. Anyone familiar on any level with Helen Mirren's work would know that she has few peers as an actress, and is utterly convincing in any role she undertakes. The Queen is no exception. It hardly seems a movie; more like a "day in the life ..." One either likes the subject matter or not. There are no special effects, only good acting and a convincing portrayal of life in a guilded cage. Recommended. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This was a good movie for those who like drama and realism. It gives us a detailed perspective of life in the royal family and the various pressures they did with. It puts a human face on something that has long seemed cold and heartless. It was an excellent film for those willing to sit down for two hours without a need for action or comedy.
