Great cast, good script, good acting. Movie was extended an extra 50 minutes by all the songs. Does anyone else think a great scene can go south when they start singing? I would have given it one star, but it was great to see Eddie Murphy return to the screen as a sc#mb@g degenerate drug addict after 27 awful family films like Dr. Doolittle and the Nutty Professor.

This is one of the worst, most boring movies I have ever seen. The film darts around looking for a protagonist and it never finds one. The singing is weak and the story is uninteresing. The music doesn't ring true to the time period. The music in this film sounds has all the "o-o-o-eyeaaay-yay-oh-aah-eee" type of singing that is popular today but has nothing to do with black popular music of the 1960's. There's no character development in this film. I didn't care about any of the characters. If someone yanked the DVD out of the player 3/4 of the way through the film and told me I couldn't watch the end of the movie I wouldn't have cared less. As someone else said ealier, I started doing housecleaning while the movie was on...it was that bad.

I thought most of the movie was made for Beyonce to wear nice clothes and display her assets and talents. Good singing and dancing overall, but the story was not so great. Honestly, I did not get the point of this movie. It started as the dream of 3 young girls and ended up showing the fall of a smart yet controlling man. And characters conversing in songs, breaking into songs about feelings and all in the middle of a regular conversation ?! Please give me a break, so cheesy !!

I watched about 30-45 minutes of this movie waiting for it to get good. 45 minutes was all I could stand. Sealed it up and sent it back. Waist of a rental.

Bravo!! Perfection. From the tinest detail to the grand performances most notabley by Eddie Murphy (heart wrenching performance) and Jennifer Hudson who's performance of 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' actually brought me to tears. I love film and I love Broadway. It's VERY hard to bring a Broadway show to film without it either ending up over-produced ala Hollywood where it loses it's theatrical feel, OR they try so hard to keep it theatrical it becomes too small for the big screen. I have not seen a Broadway show brought to the big screen so so well since Little Shop of Horrors. This was done EXACTLY right by people who obviously care as they made no comprimise either way.

what ever you do you might want to rethink this selection. boring comes to mind. if you got an hour or so of your life to waste then by all means waste it ,but just remember you don't get it back later. after 20 mins i couldn't take the sad acting or the pathetic music. How this made money is really a wonder

I disagree with most of the other reviews given here. I thought the cinematography, the acting, the singing, the songs, the story were all good. The movie touched me. It wasn't as powerful as the Broadway production, but it still told a good story well. It definitely showcased Jennifer Hudson's talent as a singer and actor, and she deserved the Golden Globe and Oscar that she won. Her performance was the best acting in the film, far outshining Beyonce, Jaimie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. In my opinion this was a story about Effie White, not Deena Jones, fictionalized characters representing the original Supremes. I will watch it more than once and I highly recommend it.
