You will laugh and cry throughout this movie. The directing, producing, casting, lighting, clothing and absolutley every aspect of this film was incredibly done. Seeing real life through the eyes of all of these people involved was utterly amazing to me. I would recommend this to anyone, including children. This is real. Although this type of movie has been done a bit too many times, this one was inspiring. I am also glad that they didn't make this ultra violent and full of profanity. Whatever violence was shown was necessary (nothing gratutious). This is a great movie for anyone 13+. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More As a Corrections Officer and related to a teacher who teaches in the same prison I work in I felt this movie was excellent!! It shows that with a little encouragement and care for others that no matter where someone comes from, they can still become something great. Kudos go out to all teachers who can reach out to their students the way that Erin Gruwell did. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I enjoy watching movies that are true stories and this was one of the best I have seen. It touches your heart and makes you see what curve balls life can throw at you when you least expect it. Teachers who can touch the lives of children as done in this movie are hero's. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Hillary portrayed her character very well. She seemed somewhat oblivious to the lady who was interviewing her, but showed that she was quite eager to meet her students and begin teaching. We realized that she didn't know what she was getting into, as did Michelle Phieffer's character in Dangerous Minds.
Her determination to reach her students was a bit unorthodox, but after seeing & learning what some of them go through on a daily basis, she realized that she needed something extreme to get their attention.
As a former teacher, I understood what she wanted to do & her emotions attached to the position that she was in. I was touched & was left wanting to read the book, in which this excellent movie was based on.
I would defintely recommend this movie to anyone. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Touches on the reality of what is happening with many American youth today, and how learning about history and connecting with role models can make a difference, as well as the value of a great teacher and their contributions to our kids. The storyline mimicked some of what I have seen in my experience working with youth as they are often devalued or marginalized by the system they live in. We enjoyed this flick. Thank you.
