Read MoreThough I enjoyed this movie, I also found myself thinking of the many ways that is could have been better. It really could have used 30 more minutes to better establish the characters and the store itself, and a lot more should have been done to explain the stores place in the community. You eventually get the central theme of each character, but it seems forced. The ending is also a bit disappointing, mostly because it's relatively shallow and the special effects are sub-par for this day and age. There are also several things that don't have the payoff they should, or are never explained. Still, the casting was perfect, the performances were solid, and the story was very sweet... A particular scene between Jason Bateman and Zach Mills is the epitome of the kind of good hearted movie making that is sadly missing these days. Unfortunately, in today's all too negative society, sweet doesn't sell.
Side note - the Blu-Ray disc has NO extras at all. That was very disappointing. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

In the end, you get this feeling that something is missing but you can't really put your finger on it. You don't know why Magorium is dying (because WHY is not the point), just that he is (and he goes at a time of his choosing). The fact that Magorium has "Imbued" the store with the same emotions as their "purile" clientele makes the store one of their most interesting characters (second to Magorium himself).
