I am so sorry that I wasted the time to watch this movie since the book is far better than the movie ever will be. The movie is so far off from the book that if I was the writer I would be so upset with them. I have seen books made into movies that are great and keep the story line correct but not this one. Don't waste you time.

Seems like a lot of people are griping about how this movie rates compared to the book. There was a book? Whatever. As someone who viewed this movie without a source reference to compare it to, this movie was just OK. This phrase has been thrown around before, but Lord of the Rings Lite is a pretty good reference. (Only with a dragon.) You can tell that the creators made the bad guys "kid friendly" as there is zero blood and even some of the grotesque looking enemies seem to have an almost playful sense of humor. Most of the dialoge is kind of corny and Malkovich isn't on screen enough and when he is seems kind of bored. The ending sets itself up for a sequel but I kind of doubt that will ever happen. If you have kids I would recommend checking this out. I probably would have loved this movie if I was about 12 years old.

After reading the book first, since I couldn't wait for the movie to come out on DVD, I was disappointed. I tried to keep an open mind about it, but it didn't change my opinion. SOOOO much of the important areas of the main plot of the book were left out which, I felt, made the plot move to fast which made my head spin. How are they going to incorporate all these changes with a second movie if it is going to be "based" on "Eldest"?

Eragon is another case of a movie that doesn't respect the source material. A beloved book turn into a film, but by the time the hollywood grinder is done with it, it barely resembles the book. There should be a multiple lawsuits against this piece of trash. It borrows every idea from another more successful source. Star Wars, Lord of the rings, Dungeons & Dragons, Harry Potter plus any number of other fantasy movies over the last 20 years. It's unoriginal. It wants to be all of those movies, but it ends up being a boring predictable mess. Avoid this movie, it's an extremely underwhelming disappointment.

The only positive is good special effects. The story was horrible. The acting was weak. Any director that can produce this crap should never be allowed near a camera.

As with all other people reviewing this movie, if you've read the book, don't bother with the movie. It was a huge disappointment and hopefully they will not butcher the story more by creating a sequel. I cannot believe that Christopher Paolini (the author of the book) would be happy with this movie. I'm sure if I had not read the book it would have been enjoyable.

I never read the book, but this is definitely a kids movie. I would not recommend watching this as an adult, unless you have kids and want to watch it with them. It is a fantasy movie, with a dragon, evil and good sides fighting, and a change of characters. Not worth wasting 2 hours of my time to see. I just enjoyed watching it because I was with my kids.

I watched it on dvd the other night. I don't get what these people are saying. Who CARES IF IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE BOOK!! It was still a good movie. I never read it so I was not dissapointed. The people who watch movies because of books are often disappointed anyways. That's why I don't read books unless tv guide. For the people Who read the books then see the movie I have this to Say STOP SAYING IT'S DIFFERENT OF COURSE IT'S GONNA BE! If you didn't like it fine. But don't discourage others who don't read to watch it. If you have not read the book like myself I'd say it's definatley a rental.
