Read More I can't believe this was even published under the name Eragon! It is an entirely different plot, not to mention the only detail that was right was the names! Urgals are lame looking bald men with weird face paint. Brom is a 30-40 looking man who is extremely cold to Eragon and shows no kindness whatsoever. Galbatorix is a lame bald guy!!!!! DON'T SEE IT! If you have read the book don't see it, it will be the worst 103 minutes of your life! If you haven't read the book, it will still be the worst movie you will ever see! (BTW, I am Michele's 13 year old daughter, please don't watch this!) Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Character development is elementary. Fight scenes are fake-looking and quite boring. The worst part is the constant demand for suspension of belief and poor scripting. Every time there is a hint at some depth, it is quickly ruined and the movie feels completely rushed.
Example: the veteran rider reveals that Saphira is too young to breathe fire & roughly 5 minutes later she is breathing massive waves of fire. Or when the hero makes a desperate journey on dragonback to save the girl and somehow the veteran rider meets him there riding only a horse. Too many loose ends, the acting was quite disappointing, and unengagin.
The movie is an epic failure in its attempt to be epic. I never read the book so I can't compare. Dragon animation was decent at parts. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I expected it to be at least somewhat true to the book. Showing Arya as a flirtatious, love-sick girl was so far beyond the outlines of the book, it was ludicrous.
The second time I watched Eragon, I watched it as a "stand-alone movie," that is to say, without considering how faithful it is to the book. This movie scores much higher as a simple adventure-fantasy. There is something about a boy and his dragon, and the movie did have some good special effects. The relationship between Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, when not judged through the lens of Paolina's book, rings true. Overall, not bad. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

What was with Arya?? Besides her appearance, which should have been mysteriously beautiful, with long black hair, green eyes & pale skin, she was positively PERKY! I was half expecting her to break out in song while she gutted urgals! The urgals - oh, they were awful. They looked like biker-dudes, not vicious, HORNED monsters! MURTAGH. He was supposed to be in the movie more than BROM, and only got about three minutes! He wasn't imprisoned in a freaking BAMBOO CAGE at Farthen Dur! In the book he was kept in a guest room when he wasn't helping defeat the urgals. SAPHIRA NEVER ALMOST DIED. Galbatorix is never even shown in the book Eragon! For all we know, he could look like a twelve-year-old!!We haven't found out in the books yet! Roran HATED Galbatorix in the book - in the movie, he joins his army! THE TWINS, SOLEMBUM & KATRINA ARE TOTALLY CUT OUT. Wtf??? SAPHIRA DID NOT BECOME FULLY GROWN IN FOUR SECONDS, EITHER. The movie sucked. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
