While all movies based on books struggle to capture the full story and pretty much always fail - this was a pretty poor movie even if you try to take it out of the context of the books. The transitions were rushed, the character development was completely lacking. I can't imagine how anyone who didn't read the books would understand what was going on at all. It's too bad that this movie wasn't done better. I think it is a difficult task to cover the Eragon book, but it could have been better. Overall, read the books and skip the movie.

Before I rented this movie I read the book. I liked it. You can tell the author, Christopher Paolini, took elements from other movies and books. i.e. The Star Wars Saga and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and incorporated them into his story. The story of Erogon, Much like the story of Luke Skywalker and Frodo Baggins, was a coming of age tale and unlocking the power inside ones self to save the day. I liked the book because you saw the growth of Eragon. A poor farm boy who did not know how to read let alone fight to a powerful warrior who can cast elven magic. What I liked about the book was not in the movie. The director and scriptwriters (probobly due to budget and studio big wigs) pushed them to cut alot of the story. What you end up getting is 103 minutes of a movie which neglects much of the story and characters that made the book a fun read. The movie was had to watch. Good Things I rented this movie for free because it was too much money in some cases.

Profound disappointment. Rushed plot, odd mix of familiar and 'epic' language, half-good actors mixed with fantastic Jeremy Irons, actually too many failings to list. It played sort of like a treatment that should have been filled-out, punched-up, and recast. Big disappointment after the book.

By it's self "Eragon" is okay as fantasy movies go. But the trouble lies in that it seems to be only a shell of the story Christopher Paolini wrote. His first two books were wonderful! They were full of strong characters, foreshadowing and interesting plot twists. Too bad the movie didn't stick closers to the books. P.S. the dragon in the movie is cool but where is the talking cat?

I watched this film without having read the book, and without any proir knowledge of the plot, so this is an unbiased review. I found the plot so-so: a mash up of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Characters were alright, but I would have liked to see more of some of them (i.e.Murtagh. He seemed interesting, but we hardly got to know him). Acting was pretty good, CGI was fantastic. I felt as if they must have been trying to fit everything into the film that's in the book, but not succeeding. It's a fun watch, but not even in the same leuge as Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.

it was a good thriller not so bad at all . kind of like star wars but nice.i enjoyed the special effects even though i hadn't any expectations at all a must see film
