In 1943 North Africa, George Patton (George C. Scott) assumes command of (and instills some much-needed discipline in) the American forces. Engaged in battle against Germany's Field Marshal Rommel (Karl Michael Vogler), Patton drives back "The Desert Fox" by using the German's own tactics. Promoted to Lieutenant General, Patton is sent to Sicily, where he engages in a personal war of egos with British Field Marshal Montgomery (Michael Bates). Performing brilliantly in Italy, Patton seriously jeopardizes his future with a single slap. While touring an Army hospital, the General comes across a GI (Tim Considine) suffering from nervous fatigue. Incensed by what he considers a slacker, Patton smacks the poor soldier and orders him to get well in a hurry. This incident results in his losing his command-and, by extension, missing out on D-Day. In his final campaign, Patton leads the US 3rd Army through Europe. Unabashedly flamboyant, Patton remains a valuable resource, but ultimately proves too much of a "loose cannon" in comparison to the more level-headed tactics of his old friend Omar Bradley (Karl Malden). Patton won 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Scott, an award that he refused. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

First of all, I'm terribly disappointed that I'm only the 2nd person to review this movie, when there were 29 other reviewers for the god-awful "House of 1,000 Corpses". This is a movie everyone should see - it is phenomenal. George C. Scott is just incredible - he was born to play this part. (Side note: The fact that he refused to accept his Academy Award for best actor because he said the Oscars were a "two-hour meat parade" and instead stayed home to watch a hockey game only heightens my regard for him.) The supporting characters are great, and I particularly like the occasional peeks at the German planning HQ. The battle scenes are fewer than expected (which is good), but they are done well for 1970. I can't recommend this movie enough - one of my all-time favorites!

It doesn't have the splash of Ryan, and it ignores the concentration camp horrors. This is not that kind of movie. It is the story of the war's general played to perfection. Patton will make you laugh and make you mad a the same time.

This movie actually moves me to want to purchase & learn more about Patton...was he the real arrogant sob the film portrays him or was he different....Either way I loved this movie...more of a guys movie that will inspire you what to look for in a man who wishes to lead.

I liked the honest portrayal of this General. It didn't just show his greatness as a commander, but also his weaknesses and his penchant to get into trouble with his mouth. What more greatness could have been acheived if he had control of his tongue? Inspiring! Great movie! well done!

If you like guy movies, this is a must! George C. Scott is inspirational in his performance. The movie Patton paints the general as a no nonsense, take it or leave it general.

This is must see material for WWII buffs, or any war movie buff for that matter. This is great movie for a weekend afternoon, when you want to veg on the couch for a few hours while watching a movie that defines the term "War Epic".

Patton was before I was born but the man was dipicted as a Military God, Genius, and the commander of all he would lead. The movie does a pretty good job capturing him, thanks in most part to the casting, and the re-enactment of the war scenes. What surprised me most about this movie was the fact that Patton understood the Russians for who they were....Total Communist....and the fact that he wanted to take them out then as oppose to waiting as we did until Regan did it. This movie was simply inspiring!

God has a way of giving us a hero when a hero is needed. General Patton was such a man. He was born to be a leader, and after he fulfilled that need, God took him back. Perhaps, somewhere in our future, if you believe in reincarnation as did George Patton, he will return to help us through another dangerous time. George C. Scott does a great job of portraying the General. He made you feel like you knew the man.

George C. Scott rocks the house in every frame he is in. If you are a WWII movie buff, and haven't seen this classic--then your'e not really a WWII movie buff, now are you? MUST be seen in widescreen to appreciate the epic scope. If you are one of those guys who worships Army tanks, you're in for a serious overdose.
