Read More I wrestled with this one as the acting of the Killer was Phenomenal and the storyline was incredibly Heartfelt and Sad. Where I lost it was when the guilty party was just about to get his just punishment...fantasy sets in and his scented creation from the dead women makes him a Saint in the eyes of those who catch a Whiff of it. Where is that in the synopsis of the movie. I expected reality based issues going by the write up on the movie so when it went off course so did my rating of this. It isn't a Bad movie but just not that good either, one I would not watch again much less than buying a copy for myself so a little less than 3 stars is the best I could do. Thanks for reading!! Read More I thought this was a great drama about a serial killer. It was offensive about Jean Baptist Greenouille mare existence, and looking for Love turn him into a serial killer. What a refreshing change from most of the serial killer movie you see today. You will have to get into the movie to appreciate what a sad love story this is. Read More Marquis De sade with an exceptional olfactory, that obsessively follows his nose in search of the perfect smell. The perfume that would be the ultimate love aroma. The preformance by the actors was note worthy, even though the subject matter had a bizzare bitter sweetness about it. Tom Tywer, the director, had a flow through out that moved uninterrupted. My problem with this drama was that it was overly lengthy in areas that would have played better if they were shortened. Also I kept waiting for Ben Whishaw's charcter to clean up. So keen that his talent brings him out of slavery into the service of a perfume maker. He wants to learn all he can about perserving the smell of everything in exsisence. Eventually this need to capture scents becomes a dangerous obsession. He starts killing women to capture their scents to blend them together and make the perfect scent. Bringing the city, the church, and the town blue noses into a panic. This movie is really long. Too long. But its well acted and a tense attention grabber. It's dark and brooding and is never boring, for the first 3/4 of the movie. Unfortunately the last 1/4 of the movie is horrid. The ending and the perfumers fate are all too easy and unsatisfying. After taking this 147 minute journey, I was left irritated by how the ending ruined everything. And I cannot give the movie a passing grade. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

It could have been a good movie, but it was way off. The murderer was an exception perfume maker, he had a wonderful sense of smell. However, he commited murder and because of his talent, he was forgiven and glorious. I can't say much without giving the ending away. The story was ok, but could have been better!
