This almost served its purpose. It was funny at times. It was romantic at times. But the ending just fell flat.

It wasn't the best movie, but had it's funny moments. Watched it with my boyfriend and it was like looking in a mirror. I've so had some of those arguments before. lol

I had heard bad things about this movie so I skipped it at the theaters. But I was pleasantly suprised by how much I liked the movie. This is by no means Jennifer Aniston's or Vine Vaughn's best movie but they were good. The plot did have some noticeable defects but nothing that you couldn't overlook. Overall the movie was enjoyable. The time passed quickly and I did laugh at some spots. If you want a light movie then choose this one.

Not funny like I thought it'd be. Not romantic. I really love movies with Vince Vaughn, but this isn't one of the best.

There is not a comedy - and especially not a "romantic" comedy. There is nothing romantic or funny about it. This is an extremely realistic portrayal of a break up - if you are looking to spend your evening suffering through a breakup then rent this. It will probably bring back memories of your own break ups. It felt more like a documentary on the end of a relationship than a movie. On the upside it was well acted and therefore realistic. On the downside it was depressing and fairly boring because it was so realistic.

I think the writing killed it for me. Vince is written so extremely male, Jennifer is written so extremely female, that even if they did get back together, you know it's just a matter of time before they break up again. In the end, it's best just to watch them go their separate ways. It was entertaining, but when it was over I didn't feel like I came away with anything more than a look at a couple that couldn't make it work.

This movie is not at all what I though it was going to be... which was a romantic comedy. I mean I know it was called the break up, but I guess I expected it to be lighter and funnier than it was. Some situations were comical because they were exaggerated quite a bit, but for the most part... you are watching two people yell and fight and break up. It's sad and depressing.

In hearty agreement with most of the other reviews, I found a good movie, intelligently exploring many basic differences between many men and women, but I was expecting a comedy. VV & JA are good actors with great chemistry, and they carried their scenes well. They are also actors with excellent comedic timing, but the writers--if their intent was indeed to write a comedy--missed the opportunity to leverage that talent. In addition, the promoters were extremely wide of the mark. Had this movie been promoted as a relationship movie with some comic elements, I believe it would have done better in the theaters and in rentals. Everyone was expecting something other than what they got and felt duped when they saw the film. Both the makers of the film and the audience were ultimately disappointed because the promoters were so far off.
