This movie has absolutley nothing to do with the life of Elizabeth Short. It's just another attempt by Hollywood to take an interesting story, spin it into a backdrop for their fictional characters. It was painful to watch, barely anything made sense and the acting was cringe-worthy. Watching well-made actors, Scarlett Johannsen and Hilary Swank, degrade themselves with overacted characters that had no background. It was like watching the cast of Guiding Light in a halloween MONTH long episode. Save your money and your queue, this movie is laughable. (seriously people were laughing in the theaters when people were killed). The only $1.50 worth is Josh Hartnett "bare"ing his talent. This is quickly overshadowed by the extravagant and overly played lesbian themes which lead nowhere and mean nothing to the plot. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More I really hate it when I have to watch a movie twice, once with subtitles, in order to figure out what the heck really happened. The actors speak like they have crap in their mouths. They mumble through the important lines so you keep rewinding to figure it out. I like Brian De Palma, but he really blew it this time. This movie sucked. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? I usually love movies like this, but this one was subpar at best. Hilary Swank was the only person to give a good performance. Aaron Eckhart was too exaggerated, Josh Hartnett was too stiff, and Scarlett Johansson can't act. Even though the acting was disappointing the character development was good. And the story was entertaining and usually fun to follow, but I think it took unnecessary turns to needlessly add to the complexity of the plot. One thing that really bugged me was the scene were Blanchard gets killed; De Palma made a terrible directorial decision by showing too much of the killer. It was only a black silhouette, but even just from that it's pretty obvious who it is. And what's worse was that it was a needless complication to the story that doesn't get brought up until the very end, and this happens about halfway through.
