Vampires: The Turning (2005) Reviews

I'm a fan of the "Vampires" series started with the first John Carpenter movie. This is the third and surprisingly entertaining installment in the series. It's set in Thailand and has as the premise rival gangs of Vampires at war with each other, one that kills humans and the other that tries to satisfy itself with animal blood. The premise almost works. A tourist couple is caught in the middle of this: she is kidnapped by the human-sucking gang and the boyfriend joins the rivals to try to save her. The movie has a compelling plot, excellent production values, a lot of action, and is moderately scary, but suffers from poor acting, particularly on the part of the 800 year old Vampiress who started it all. Her acting is so terrible it's ludicrous, and almost destroys the film. All in all, though, I had fun with it. It's worth a rental.
