A professional poker player whose astounding luck at the table fails to translate into his lonesome love life attempts to win the World Series of Poker while simultaneously earning the affections of a beautiful Las Vegas singer in a high-stakes emotional drama from L.A. Confidential director Curtis Hanson and Munich screenwriter Eric Roth. When his personal problems threaten to distract him from what could be his biggest win ever, seasoned poker pro Huck Cheever (Eric Bana) finds comfort in the company of singer Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore). Upon preparing for the biggest card game in the country, however, Huck soon realizes that his problems have only just begun when he finds that his opponent at the table will be none other than his estranged father, L.C. (Robert Duvall), a poker legend whose mythical reputation makes him a more than worthy opponent for his troubled son. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Good movie if you like Texas hold Em and boy meets girl flick. Anything Drew Barrymore is in is worth watching. Fun seeing all the real poker players play themselves. Robert Duvall very good as usual. I never saw Eric Bana before but he was excellant.
I love Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana and was looking forward to seeing them in a nice romantic movie, but that's not what I got. Instead, I got to watch over 2 hours of poker. The romance was so poorly developed that I didn't care if they got together in the end or not. If I had wanted to watch guys play poker for 2 hours, I would have just watched ESPN and saved the rental fee.
Instead of spending money on all the poker player cameos, maybe they should've spent it on a better script. A compulsive gambler is supposedly cured through gamling, what's up with that? Also didn't help that every hand was boringly predictable, it's the same cliche situations in every lame poker movie since the craze started.
I couldn't even finish it. It was all about watching poker - that's it. I glazed over until I couldn't deal with it anymore. Great if you love poker - not great if you don't.
One of the worst movies ever -- it beat the Bad Lieutenant in being long and boring. No real meaningful, certainly not humorous storyline. The characters were boring, although there were many cameo appearances of other familiar actors. Not worth renting at all!!
The movie was alright, I'm not going ot go out and buy it. It was mostly about a guy who gambles for a living and can't seem to stop even after he loses almost all his money and his girl.
Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore have no chemistry whatsoever. The movie script is bad and so predictable. The movie is full of crap. I will recommend this to my worst enemy.
