I found myself engrossed in the characters and enjoying every minute. My "tear" gear even turned on for a minute ( I had to hide my face)...it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Lawrence Fishburne should have gotten an oscar for his performance and the young girl was tremendous. One of the most heartwarming movies I have ever watched...a true classic. The acting was superb and the characterizations included subtleties that heightened the emotional content.....you will absolutely love the ideals portrayed here..should be required viewing in classrooms throughout the U.S. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? This movie definitely inspires us to accept 'the gift' of who we really are, the special skills that we have, those which make us unique individuals, and use that 'gift' to fulfill our purpose in life, bring hope and inspiration to others, and ultimately, to give back all the glory to the Lord. Watch this movie with your kids... you'll surely love it! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

The characters were realisitc and their interplay was exceptional. The tone was correct and the pace was nice.--- It was refreshing to see a positive message about black people, instead of the usual crap street comedies and crime stories.--- I am not one of those people that foes to watch films JUST because they are about blacks. Quite the opposite, considering the quality they usually come out with. This film, however, was a wonderful exception that I recommend to all parents and children. Read More My wife and I loved it; may be a little too sweet for some folks. There is a little use of language (we've got a seven year old), and the race issue is discussed as teens would discuss it (also a little rough for the youngest of crowds). But the hopefulness and angst expressed by Palmer (who plays Akeelah) is very refreshing and carries the day. Quite a change of pace for myself (horror, action, sci-fi person). Very smart family fare...finally! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
