A MASTERPIECE!! It SUPERBLY mixes humor and serious life lessons together better than ANY movie I have seen in a long time with the exception of The Color Purple. Tyler Perry has created a MASTERPIECE! If ANYONE says they don't like this film, they can't possibly have a heart or soul or sense of humor and are wrapped up in their own sorrows of their bitter life. WATCH THIS ONE! EVERYONE .

Tyler Perry is hilarious but when he is not on screen it comes to a screeching halt...fast forward though anything without him and you have a funny movie.

A bit schizophrenic, the scenes in this movie are compartmentalized as either dramatic, sappily romantic or comedic so don't expect a romantic comedy because those scenes are never funny. Kimberly Elise plays Helen, a beautiful woman married 18 years and then thrown out of their mansion by her two-timing rich lawyer hubby, Charles, played quite well by Steve Harris. It may be a compliment to Elise but she is not believable as a wife in her late 30's. Kim looks and acts too young. Otherwise, she does an adequate job acting through the spectrum of emotions required by her role. The fresh new love scenes with Orlando, played by Shemar Moore, are a bit thick for my tastes. I don't appreciate Moore's acting nor his tacky head-bandana! Tyler Perry plays 3 characters and is the sole comic relief of the entire movie but only appears in about 10% of the scenes. Cicely Tyson is very good as Myrtle, Helen's mother. The movie ends with the Diary motif left unevolved, irrelevant to the plot.

Dumb, ignorant, over the top and just plain STUPID! And who was the moron that cast some guy (whose a lousy actor by the way) as a woman? If you are older than 8 or have a sense of humor that has matured beyond the age of 8 then DO NOT RENT THIS MOVIE!!! Lastly, what "comedic overtones" could anyone who was awake see in this film?
