Based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore, V for Vendetta takes place in an alternate vision of Britain in which a corrupt and abusive totalitarian government has risen to complete power. During a threatening run in with the secret police, an unassuming young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) is rescued by a vigilante named V (Hugo Weaving) -- a caped figure both articulate and skilled in combat. V embodies the principles of rebellion from an authoritarian state, donning a mask of vilified would-be terrorist of British history Guy Fawkes and leading a revolution sparked by assassination and destruction. Evey becomes his unlikely ally, newly aware of the cruelty of her own society and her role in it. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of the people." That philosophy alone, expressed in the film, is reason enough to give this movie five stars.

Maybe I'm just too easily influenced, but this movie seems to me to be the perfect comment on the state of current politics and the means by which citizens can restore free speech, thought and will. Such aphorisms as "People should not be afraid of their government, governments should be afraid of their people," express the foundational principles of good government clearly, succinctly and with great eloquence. This movie, while set in England in the near future, reminds us clearly of what we have lost in the USA of our traditional liberties and suggests the path to reclaiming what should be ours by right. I recommend it to all who are disgusted (as am I) with the failure of our representatives to represent the citizens who elected them and to lavish all their care and favor on those who have purchased their loyalty. With love under will, Bob, Adastra, The Wizzard of Jacksonville

I can truly identify with the movie and the route America is on; the slippery slope to hell (communism/fascism) if we do NOT pull our heads out of the sand and take back our God given rights of authority over the Earth. I would love to see millions in joker masks march on DC and then BULLDOZE it! The N W O is hellbent on depopulating 90% of the Earth and are moving forcefully towards their goal. Wake Up America! Your FREEDOMS are quickly disappearing; you are the last hope!

Very good story, well acted. Pity that the director chose to shoot so many scenes in the dark...

The reviewers that give this movie a low score are what is wrong with this country. You all are clearly missing the point. Go back to your finger painting and sucking your thumbs, you ignorant conservative racists and hate-mongers. There are dictionaries if you don't understand big words.

I love Natalie Portman and she does well in all of her movies. I really wish I could have seen the guys face at the end at least. Thank you.

All you morons that are bashing this movie because it depicts America in a bad light do realize that it is set in England, don't you? There are other countries in the world besides 'merika. Were you just born retarded? Or did you get some kind of head injury? Does it make your head hurt when you think to hard? You also should realize that this movie is depicting fascism and not specifically bashing Christianity. The fascists are using Christianity as a mask to legitimize their actions. But, by all means, bash away....it's easier than critical thinking.

What's amazing to me is how anyone could rate this as 5 starts. Come on; a master the thespian becomes a knife wielding assassin by some biological experiment? Only kept watching to see Portman get her head shaved ;-) Another Christians are bad movie where a gay guy that kept a copy of the Koran was killed for it. Strange parity the only societies gays are not tolerated are Muslim. Would have liked to destroy it so no one else need suffer, but I had to send it back...
