Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns to the screen for another round of supernatural adventures on the high seas in this spirited sequel to the 2003 Disney hit, which re-teams original director Gore Verbinski with original screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. As Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) prepare to exchange vows at the altar, their wedding plans hit rough waters with the arrival of sea-bound scallywag Jack Sparrow. It seems that Sparrow owes a substantial blood debt to half-octopus sea captain Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), and that the only way for the flamboyant sea rover to elude the wrath of his otherworldly pursuer is to seek the aid of mysterious and powerful voodoo priestess Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), whose ability to resurrect the dead and gaze into the future may provide just the advantage needed to avoid a waterlogged fate in the locker of his legendary nemesis. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
If you did not enjoy the first Pirates you must hate movies. So there were high expectations here and it falls short. Too long and poor character development. What purpose does the cannibal scene have? It is a weak attempt and simply zany nothingness. Expand on the scene with Sparrow emerging from the coffin instead - that is actually key to the plot. The villians are just "there" with no good background. Jack Sparrow became our "friend" in the first movie yet is now betraying others throughout this one. Then everyone desides he's still worth saving at the end - which is what the third movie is about? What!? As others have said, I spent 3 hrs watching this and I'm not sure what has happened and where this is going. I hope part 3 ties it up.
We had heard such bad reviews we were ambivalent about watching this one..but it was terrific. More sci-fi than the last but we are looking forward to the third!!! Good acting and the characters were really good. The whole cast deserves kudos.
I love Jack Sparrow (Swoons): "Elllllllllooooooo Beastie!!" This one seemed to be more adventurous than the first - I like that the director tried to do something different with the characters this time. Seemed more on the lines of Indiana Jones this go round.
