Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns to the screen for another round of supernatural adventures on the high seas in this spirited sequel to the 2003 Disney hit, which re-teams original director Gore Verbinski with original screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. As Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) prepare to exchange vows at the altar, their wedding plans hit rough waters with the arrival of sea-bound scallywag Jack Sparrow. It seems that Sparrow owes a substantial blood debt to half-octopus sea captain Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), and that the only way for the flamboyant sea rover to elude the wrath of his otherworldly pursuer is to seek the aid of mysterious and powerful voodoo priestess Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), whose ability to resurrect the dead and gaze into the future may provide just the advantage needed to avoid a waterlogged fate in the locker of his legendary nemesis. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Curse of the Black Pearl is my one of my all-time favorites, and I was really looking forward to this one. Maybe my expectations were too high but I thought Dead Man's Chest was a stinker!! They shamelessly used cheap "remember the first one?" gimmicks: "Why is the rum always gone?" and the like. This movie could have been so much better if it had been treated like it's own movie, not just a sequel. And the ending...sheesh. Like I said: A stinker.
The positive reviews already listed all talk about the film being too long, confusing, etc...and they are right.
If you want special effects..have at it.
But didn't we see the Kraken's mouth in the first Dune movie? Disney and the actors will make a pretty penny on this one...but as for a middle movie in a trilogy---give me The Empire Strikes Back.
Fun, though, if you have 2 1/2 hours.
The movie to the sequal had action but some scenes seemed to drag on forever. It seems Disney is stretching by creating a series of these movies. The sequel was very enjoyable but the second I couldn't wait for it to end although the special effects were great but what was up with the monkey (could of done without)
Definately recommend watching the first one. Not because you have to but to get you in the mood. Don't go into it looking for closure because as you know the final chapter doesn't come out until 2007. Though it does tie up some lose ends and then leaves you wanting more at the end. But let's talk about the movie. Visually one of the best movies ever made. The cgi work is unbelievable and Davy Jones stills the show. Deep, Orlando and Knightly are as good or better than in the original and the action though spread out at times is worth the wait. If you are going to truly experience this movie rush out to the nearest theater today, and then like me you'll be one of the first in line in 07.
THIS movie was sooooooooo awesome!!!!! i just love johnny depp as cap jack he is perfect for the part! some scary images but i love ! u should totally see this movie! i cant wait for POTC 3 to cum out!!! MAY 2007!! WHOO!!! Can't wait!
Still, the best movie of the summer of 2006 by far. Lack of character development, even in established characters, was the only bad thing I can really say about it. Other than that, it is great fun. CGI effects were way better than Superman, which was cheesy. POC:DMC is darker than the original. Good plot, although the plot is completely unresolved by the end of the movie. I think the creators strayed a bit from the original, with respect to the 3 key characters, and that made the movie feel somewhat unfamiliar, and disappointing on some levels. Can't wait to see the 3rd, and find out the ending.
EXCELLENT! My family just saw this movie- it is wonderful! We loved the first movie and this was just as good! Ending was great and left you satisfied with closing of the events that took place and anxious to see where the next adventure goes! Can't wait til the 3rd move comes out next MAY! We will definitely be purchasing this movie!
The ending will leave you waiting for part 3. Good action, good comedy, and great sea creatures. Glad to see they bring everybody from the original back into this excellent action adventure. Kind of long, but very entertaining.
The grand continuation of the epic Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. With the legendary ending of the Curse of the Black Pearl and the loss of Geoffrey Rush as a lead role I was concerned about the future of Pirates of the Caribbean, but the trilogy loses no steam as it brings Bill Nighy on board as the villainous Davy Jones. If Pirates of the caribbean was a sandwich, the best sandwich ever created, Dead Man's Chest is the delicious meat between two slices of flawless bread.
