Instead of making a biography, the producers chose to follow Capote through a "changing" time in his life... the writing of "In Cold Blood". Unfortunately, there is no metamorphasis that takes place. Instead, Capote comes accross aas someone unaffected by the whole process. Even though PSH (Hoffman) gives a commanding performance, it's all for nothing because of the "suspect" script. They should have either rewritten the movie or looked at the entire life of Capote. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Even my 25 year old daughter, who was pretty much unfamiliar with Capote, was mesmerized. A true tour de force. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Consistently interesting and imagined from an unusual point-of-view, CAPOTE is worth a watch--particularly, I think, for those of us who werent QUITE so impressed with this writers In Cold Blood (or the Richard Brooks film based on the book). Dan Futtermans screenwriting and Bennett Millers direction come at the central event obliquely, and so the movie is really about writers and writing, character and responsibility--and its all the more worthwhile for this stance. While Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a sublime impersonation of Truman (Catherine Keener, Chris Cooper, Bruce Greenwood, Clifton Collins, Jr. and Mark Pellegrino offer fine support), Id still have given the years big award to Heath Ledger for his indelible creation in Brokeback Mountain. Both men are terrific actors, but Ledgers performance pulls you in while Hoffmans pushes you away. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I would just like to say that nothing bothers me more than ignorant people giving an Oscar winning movie a half star. Philip Seymour Hoffman is brilliant and this is an amazing movie. I would suggest to anyone that gave this movie a half star and called it boring to rent something like Mars Attacks or Battlefield Earth...those may be more on your mentality level.
