Read More Phillip Hoffman is just great in this movie. Not that his track record would indicate otherwise, but Hoffman gives a particularly phenomenal performance as Truman Capote. The movie deals with how Capote is forever changed after getting close to a murderer while using him as the focus of his novel. It's never portrayed as Capote falling in love for the murderer, that's a simplistic and misguided summary of the movie. The movie is far more complex than that, and the performances are terrific. A definite must see. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Phillip Seymour Hoffman was outstanding in the role of Truman Capote...but the rest of the film was as dull and lifeless as "they get."WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I watched it again the next A.M. and I was glad that I did. Hoffman is superb in his portrayal of Capote. The movie is slow; no load music, no frills, virtually no action (except a reenactment of the murders), and low dialoque. Two things were helpful to me in appreciating the movie and the dialogue:.. 1. I had recently seen 'In Cold Blood', and ......................................... 2. I always watch videos with closed
captioning. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I had read Capote's book many years ago and found it very chilling...describing the totally violent and senseless act in Kansas. I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie, but it was quite well done in spite of being a bit slow. Capote was a strange man, but he wrote this classic book which then helped lead to his own personal destruction. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I thought this was about Capote's life & his work but all we saw was a slo-mo version of how he wrote"In Cold Blood". I read the book years ago and saw the movie-both were terrific. What was this? The actors probably were faithful to the script & the true Capote was captured in the film but it was like watching paint dry to a dirge soundtrack. There had to have been some markers called in at the Academy for this thing to to have even been nominated. My wife kept falling asleep & ,at one point, I almost cashed in myself.Hollywood has hit a dry spell.Remakes are all that is left I guess. I'm glad I did not go to a theatre to see this or view it on a rainy day. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More This was definitely the Best Picture of the Year - for putting me to sleep. I kid you not, twice I tried to make it through to the end of this DVD, and twice I was lulled into an inescapable slumber. Fortunately I did not dream about the movie, for it would have been a nightmare with no end in sight - slow plot, no action (at least that I was able to stay awake for) and his southern / gay accent got old real fast. How this beat Walk the Line makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Earth to the Academy: just because a movie is about a gay guy does not mean it is a good movie.
