If you like film noir, you'll like this flick. Lot's of slang used, just like in the days of Bogart as Dashiell Hammett's Sam Spade...so yes, following some of the dialouge can be a challenge, but I really like that style. Smart mystery. Great send-up to the days of the tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold detectives. Great Indy film effort.

If you are into movies with a 1940's detective narrative mixed over a modern day high school setting... this one is for you.

The highly stylized dialog takes some getting used to at first - but once I was down with the lingo (and it took me a bit) I enjoyed this new age Noir film. The use of the Noir style in a teen-drama setting was clever. If you are not a fan in the first place (or at least familiar) with Noir films of past, you may have trouble enjoying this or seeing where it's strangeness is coming from, otherwise I think a film that can be appreciated for it's intent.

Well-attuned to the noir genre. Typical gang warfare, drug deals, etc. Then his mother comes in with milk and cookies and you realize, they're just high-schoolers. I wonder if real high schools are really so bleak...

It's a fun, involving concept, but it tends to weaken the more you think about it. Good concept, but didnt climax the way that it should've.

Boring!!!! That pretty much sums it up. Rent this if you need help falling asleep. You'll be asleep within minutes. I am a fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and he did a fine job acting. I think the script was poorly written. So much slag you just pretend you know what the heck they are saying. Also the music used in this film is irritating and annoying. If you are a fan of Gordon-Levitt then rent The Lookout. That is a great movie!
