I felt stunned when the movie was over and plan to see it again in a few months. Other reviewers have said it so well and I can only add how I continue to marvel at the brilliance of America's independent film. While blockbusters fill the cineplex theaters and our trash culture is exported round the world, we here are so fortunate to have films like this. 'Nuff said. Read More So many Hollywood movies go for style over substance, but this film has both, in abundance. Excellent performances all around by Clarkson, Scott, and Sarsgaard. The actors and the well-written script draw you in to the characters; their needs, wants, and desires. At times you feel sorry for each character; at other times you curse them for their seemingly cold, calculated, destructive actions. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Tells a lot about how people are manipulated in Hollywood. Very dark and quite a downer though. The ending makes one wonder why take the journey at all. Lots of loose ends. But brave and honest so worth watching. Not for kids. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More An expertly written, directed & acted look at a Hollywood power broker, his wife & the up-and-coming screenwriter he buys & beds, THE DYING GAUL is writer Craig Lucas' first foray into directing. He's certainly learned his craft. I saw the NYC production of his play some years back, and found it an equally fine piece of stagecraft (with one of the best stage performances I've ever seen--from Tony Goldwyn). While the movie does not quite match the play's expertise in dealing with hypocrisy, sexuality, the Internet, trust, jealousy & betrayal, it comes close. Performances are wonderful & Lucas has opened up the play so there's no sense of confinement or of being forced into unnecessary territory. The movie is full of effortlessly smart dialog, & there's not a moment that registers as unbelievable. This is dark stuff--but worthwhile. Lucas continues his insistence on investigation & honesty coupled to a lovely, caring feeling for all his characters--no matter who they are or what they do. They missed the mark on what could have been a great movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The issues of the hollywood power broker, and starving writer who happen to be bisexual are woven to a fever pitch. The devastation of the games the writer and the mogol's wife played using the internet to entrap her husband in the affair was a highlight for me. She played a devastating game with the writer for her husband's affections, and lost in the end....the children lost...though they were worthy combatants. Good to see a movie where the gay protagonist is not typically killed off in the plot....Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
