I really liked THE HOLIDAY (2006 starring Kate Winslet); I loved TARA ROAD (2005--starring Olivia Williams, Andie MacDowell and Stephen Rea). Moreover, TARA ROAD is a book written by Maeve Binchey some time ago, featured by Oprah for her book club, and made into a movie with the assistance of the Irish Film Commission. I thought TARA ROAD was absolutely wonderful! I was engrossed in it from start to finish. The charachter development, acting and story were absolutely top-notch. I also loved the DVD extra in which Maeve Binchey is interviewed. She certainly has the Irish gift of gab and shares a bit on her and her husband's own experience of international house swapping.

....but just wanted to comment that "The Holiday" with Winslet & Diaz was actually a rip off of Tara Road. The movie was a novel first by Maeve Binchy. I believe that the "Tara Road" was made first but was not released here until now... I loved the book and look forward to seeing the movie.

The description of the movie made me think of the movie the Holiday starring Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz . If you loved that movie I recommend that you watch that movie, this one was ok but not as great as the Holiday. It reminded me of something you could've seen on the Lifetime channel.

Written from a womans viewpoint, the movie tackles two women suffering from major traumas and how we learn to face disappointments, recover and help one another. I enjoyed it.

The cover and the title say it all: Chick Flick with a Capital Chick. If you can sit through this you are a real ladies' lady or madams' man or something. It should just have gone straight to the Lifetime channel. When the word "bittersweet" shows up in a synopsis you can be sure it is girly lingo for complete, utter, boredom. Horrible girly flicks always have a picture of an actress or actresses on the front who are not ugly, but not tasty either; one cannot have any turn ons at all in a lifetime, girly movie. Some stores have an area blocked off by a curtain or beads for a section with adult movies; this movie, and movies like it, need their own special section too, to protect those of us who actually want entertainment from our movies.

Virtually every male character in this movie is a one-dimensional fool, portrayed as self absorbed and shallow. The women, of course, are living an Oprah episode; deeply hurt by their failed relationships (mostly the men's fault) they connect with each other, leading to them finding their strength through sharing. A patronizing and grueling watch.

It might have came before "The Holiday," but not nearly as enjoyable. I sat through it but didn't like it as much as I expected I would. The acting wasn't that good & the ending was pretty predictable. It was just okay for me.

Slow striaght up chick flick that is just like "the Holiday" that Diaz/Winslet did better. In this coping after tragedy movie a pair of women on opposite sides of the ocean swap houses. Lots of Lassie com home music and few good scenes other than the opener, but even that fails to set the mood thwy were looking for. Even if the Tara Road book came first, it's move is a flop.
