Read More This was a really good movie. I can't speak for its historical accuracy, 50's TV never interested me and the McCarthy trials are a far distant memory of a history test. I can say for certain that only an idiot would condemn this as an attack on Republicans, and only a bigger idiot would think of it as a history lesson. It is an idealistic over dramatized lesson on the perils of television, and the possible good that can it CAN be used for. Looking at the lineup of reality shows and irrelevant mind numbing dribble that passes for prime time television, I think the reminder is badly needed. Great movie. Amazing directing. A must see. Or as my son said, "you need to be doing something else and just listen". But I enjoyed the movie. I like historical movies, and the film was done well. They even consulted with the actual people...how often does that happen. My wife did fall asleep though :) Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Being a broadcasting student, I appreciate the contributions that Murrow made to the infancy of television, even to his days on radio. It took a man like Murrow to guide us through an uneasy time such as this, and if we hadn't have had him, I don't think anyone could have stood up to the McCarthyism of the time. This film depicts it in the only way possible, with reservation, with candor, and with class. Don't listen to all these "boring" reviews, they just don't get it. Politics is one of the most useless professions around, but it's needed to keep the country running. Just leave your political views at the door while watching this film and you'll enjoy it a lot more. This incident is not about politics, but about exploitation of a worthless cause against a lot of innocent people. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More It should be no suprise that this kind of a one-sided, irrelevent, mind-fogging (not to mention boring) diatribe would come from George Clooney, and be hailed as Academy Award material by the self-serving Hollywood community. The movie itself is tedious and mind numbingly dull. The events (as Clooney would like you to believe them) happened over a half-century ago (1950 - 54). The real story is about the irrational junior Senator from Wisconsin (who was - not suprisingly - a Republican) Joseph McCarthy, and the Senate which censured him for "obstructing the constitutional process of the Senate". McCarthy was a Marquette graduate, an attorney, an officer in the military, and an alcoholic. Sounds like a good story, but what we are given is a tale about a newcaster who puts a whole Hollywood T.V. network in danger of losing a sponsor - oh, God forbid... If you want history, read a book. If you want entertainment choose a different movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
